Abstract: Many comparative studies on the benefits of vegetarian food and of not eating meat are available. This article sheds light on the benefits & effects at a spiritual level of eating meat and vegetarian food. In this article we are presenting our study using the Electrosomatographic method with the help of a biofeedback machine, the DDFAO, of the effect of eating meat and vegetarian food on the Kunḍalinī chakrās of seekers with and without negative energy distress.

1. Introduction
Since time immemorial, vegetarian food has been advocated as being complementary to spiritual practice. In this experiment we have studied the effects and benefits of eating vegetarian food vs eating meat on the Kundalini chakras of seekers with and without negative energy distress. Kundalini chakras are the centres of subtle energy that is required for the functioning of the various components of the physical body, as well as the mind and intellect.
2. Some details of the experiment
2.1 Period of the experiment
4th January 2009 to 22nd February 2009
2.2 Age group of the subjects
21 to 56 years
2.3 Methodology
Please refer to our article Introduction to spiritual research using the electrosomatographic scanning technique for the details on the methodology.
In this experiment, after recording the baseline reading, we first exposed the subjects to eating meat. Then readings were taken at 1-4 hour intervals till the readings came to the baseline reading and then the experiment was concluded.
Upon taking a new baseline reading, the subjects were exposed to vegetarian food and the above process was repeated till the subjects reached the baseline state.

4.1 Improvement in activity of the upper four chakras due to imbibing of the Sattva component from the vegetarian food, thus making the individual sattvik
Question: After eating vegetarian food, the DDFAO readings corresponding to the Kundalini chakras were suggestive of improvement in the activity of the upper four chakras in 3 out of 5, that is, 60% of seekers without negative energy distress, and 2 out of 5, that is, 40% of seekers with negative energy distress. What was the actual reason at the subtle level underlying this improvement in readings?
Subtle-knowledge section:
1.Vegetarian food is sāttvik.
Please refer to the below drawing based on subtle-knowledge drawn by Ms. Yoya Vallee
Contact with sattvik vibrations emanating from vegetarian food activated the five vital energies in the body and the functioning of the Chetana (That aspect of Divine consciousness that governs the functioning of the mind and body) in the body improved. As a result, the Sattva component spreads rapidly throughout the bodies of these seekers.
2. As the upper chakras are more sensitive than the lower chakras in responding to the Sattva component, they imbibe it in a short period of time. In seekers without negative energy distress, as there is no resistance to this imbibing process, there was immediate increase in the Sattva component. This activated the upper chakras, which was reflected as improved activity in the readings. This shows the importance of eating sattvik food.
3. In the case of seekers with negative energy distress, the reduced activity of chakras before eating vegetarian food was due to the collection of black energy. The Sattva component in vegetarian food reduced the Raja-Tama oriented black energy in the chakras. Thus their activity improved.
4.2 Activity of lower three chakras improved after eating vegetarian food in seekers who follow Karmayoga
Question: After eating vegetarian food, 1 out of 5, that is, 20% of seekers without negative energy distress and 2 out of 5, that is, 40% of seekers with negative energy distress showed readings suggestive of improvement in the activity of the lower 3 chakras. Why did the activity of the lower 3 chakras improve?
Subtle-knowledge section: Different chakras are especially active as per the natural inclination towards a path of spiritual practice of that individual. In the case of individuals with temperaments more inclined towards the Path of Deliberate Rigour (Haṭhayoga), the Path of Action (Karmayoga) and the Path of transfer of spiritual energy (Shaktipātyoga), the lower chakras are more active. The seekers mentioned in the above question fall into this category. Hence, upon eating vegetarian food, as a result of the sattvik waves imbibed from it, significant change was found in those chakras.
4.3 Spiritual science underlying reduced activity of the upper four chakras noted in the fifth reading upon eating vegetarian food by a seeker without negative energy distress
Question: In a seeker without negative energy distress, Mr. CV, upon eating vegetarian food and until baseline was reached, a total of nine readings were obtained. All of these readings showed a trend of improved activity of the upper four chakras, except the fifth reading where the activity was reduced. What is the reason for this observation?
Subtle-knowledge section:
As the seeker was having positive vibrations, the high Sattva component obtained from the vegetarian food was assimilated in his body. This reflected as consistent improved activity of the upper four chakras. If more Sattva component is continuously added to a chakra that is already sattvik, then more Sattva component emanates from it. This is what happened in the case of this seeker. With the help of the additional Sattva component obtained from the vegetarian food, his upper four chakras showed improved activity.
The fifth reading showed reduced activity – If the Sattva component is rapidly assimilated in a chakra then the chakra goes beyond the three subtle-components (triguṇ̣ās). Hence, it goes from the materialised (saguṇ) to the non-materialised (nirguṇ) form, which is the inactive form. This is what happened in this seeker. The imbibing of high Sattva component obtained from the vegetarian food and hence, going beyond the components by the upper four chakras, was picked up by DDFAO as reduced activity.
As the effect of the Sattva component obtained upon eating the vegetarian food started waning, again the upper four chakras came down from the non-materialiesed to the materialised state. This was reflected by the equipment reading as improved activity of the upper four chakras.
4.4 Spiritual science underlying eating vegetarian food acting as a spiritual healing remedy
Question:In a seeker with negative energy distress, there was a significant decrease in the activity of the upper four chakras, while the lower three chakras didn’t show much change in a reading taken 9 hours 35 minutes after eating vegetarian food. What is the reason for this observation?
Subtle-knowledge section:
Subtle-sorcerers (māntriks) had established black energy centres in the upper four chakras of this seeker. As vegetarian food is sattvik, it increased the Sattva component in the seeker’s body. This reduced the capacity of the black energy centres in the upper four chakras. This was reflected and picked up by the DDFAO as reduced activity of the chakras. In other words, vegetarian food acted as a spiritual healing remedy which caused a reduction in the capacity of the centres in the upper four chakras established by subtle–sorcerers for emanating distressing energy.
As the subtle–sorcerers had collected distressing energy in the centres in the upper four chakras, Sattva component in the vegetarian food was used to fight against distressing vibrations in the upper four chakras and hence, the lower three chakras did not show any change.
4.5 Spiritual science underlying improved activity of upper four chakras after eating meat by seekers with and without distress
Question: After eating meat, 4 out of 5, that is, 80% seekers without negative energy distress and all 5, that is, 100% seekers with negative energy distress showed improved activity of the upper 4 chakras. What is the reason underlying this?
Subtle-knowledge section: Meat is predominant in the Tama component.
Please refer to the below drawing based on subtle-knowledge drawn by Ms. Yoya Vallee
Upper chakras respond more promptly to highly tāmasik components in a positive or distressing manner.
- In seekers without negative energy distress, the activity of the upper 4 chakras was increased upon eating meat. This was because they became activated to fight the distressing vibrations emanating from the meat. This was reflected as increased activity by the equipment.
- In seekers with negative energy distress, upon eating meat the same result was seen, but the underlying reasoning was entirely to the contrary. The black energy centres created by superior subtle-sorcerers in the upper chakras in the body of seekers with negative energy distress were activated to imbibe the Tama component in the meat. This again was reflected as increased activity by the equipment.
4.6 Effect of sattvik and tamasik substances on the chakras depends on the proportion of negative energy distress
Question: Ms. AM having negative energy distress took 2 hours 20 minutes to return to baseline level after eating meat and took 31 hours 10 minutes to return to baseline level after eating vegetarian food. Mr. DG, also having negative energy distress, took 22 hours to return to baseline level after eating meat and took 2 hours 41 minutes to return to baseline level after eating vegetarian food. What is the reason for this difference seen in these two seekers with negative energy distress?
Subtle-knowledge section:
If the proportion of distress is less, the effect of tamasik components is sustained for a short duration and the effect of sattvik substances is sustained for a longer duration. Such an individual can fight against the Tama component in tamasik components and can retain the Sattva component.
If the proportion of distress is high, theTama component in tamasik components gets stored in the body and the Sattva component in sattvik components is used to fight the distressing energy. Hence, the positive effect of sattvik components is sustained for a short duration. Hence in the case of Mr. DG the effect of vegetarian food was sustained for a short duration (2 hours 41 minutes). As this seeker has severe distress due to storage of the Tama component in tamasik substances, the adverse effect of meat was sustained for a longer period (22 hours).
Ms. AM has less distress compared to the Mr. DG. Hence the adverse effect of meat was sustained for a shorter duration. Compared to that, the effect of vegetarian food was sustained for much longer.
4.7 Duration of the effect of sattvik and tamasik components depends on the presence or absence of negative energy distress and also on the spiritual level of the individual
Question: In this experiment, Mr. CV took 26 hours and 56 minutes to return to baseline level upon eating meat. The same seeker took 44 hours and 31 minutes to return to baseline level upon eating vegetarian food. Mr. MK took 6 hours 45 minutes to return to baseline level upon eating meat and 2 hours 25 minutes to return to baseline level upon eating vegetarian food. What is the reason for this difference seen in the duration of the stimuli on these two seekers without negative energy distress?
Subtle-knowledge section:
- Duration of effects of sattvik and tamasik components on the chakras depends on whether or not the seeker has negative energy distress: Mr. CV does not have negative energy distress. Hence he has more Sattva component. Therefore, the sattviktā which increased further upon eating sattvik vegetarian food was sustained for a longer time. The tamasik meat did reduce his sattvikta to some extent. However, because of his original sattvik nature, he returned to his baseline state sooner compared to than upon eating vegetarian food. This means the effect of the sattvik component was sustained longer than that of the tamasik component.
- Duration of effects of sattvik and tamasik components on the chakras also depends on the spiritual level: A wide variation in the duration of effect of vegetarian and meat was seen in the case of Mr. CV; whereas the effect on Mr. MK was short lived. This is because the spiritual level of Mr. MK is 62%, whilst the spiritual level of Mr. CV is 51%. Once the spiritual level of a seeker crosses 60%, dissolution of his mind takes place. Then worldly matters like eating and drinking, clothes etc. have a limited effect on the mind. Hence, duration of their effect is also less.
4.8 Upper chakras respond predominantly in intellectually functioning individuals
Question: Three readings of Mr. AnK with negative energy distress taken 3 hours and 45 minutes after eating meat showed significant increase in activity of the upper four chakras. The last reading taken at 5 hours and 10 minutes showed significant reduction in activity. However, his lower three chakras consistently showed reduction in activity. What is the reason for this observation?
Subtle-knowledge section:
This seeker has mild negative energy distress. The upper four chakras act at the level of the intellect. The lower three chakras are associated predominantly with activities related to the gross body. Hence, they act at the mind level. If the individual is inclined to function at the intellectual level, then the upper four chakras react predominantly to exposure to any stimulus. This is what happened in the case of this seeker. When exposed to the Tama component in the meat, his upper four chakras actively tried to fight the Tama component. This was reflected as increased activity by the equipment. As the duration of this battle went on increasing, the effect of the battle was seen throughout the body and the upper as well as lower chakras became inactive.
4.9 Immediate response to positive or distressing vibrations by the chakras of seekers without negative energy distress and the effect on the chakras in corresponding proportion
Question: Upon eating meat, a seeker’s first five readings showed that the activity of the upper four chakrās was substantially improved. The next three readings showed reduced activity, while the last two readings again showed improved activity. What is the reason underlying such ups and downs in the activity of the upper four chakras in this seeker?
Subtle-knowledge section:
In seekers without negative energy distress, the process of resisting attacks by negative energies from the atmosphere as well as imbibing positive vibrations goes on incessantly in a sensitive and alert manner.
In the case of this seeker, upon eating meat, the activity of the upper four chakras was substantially improved in order to fight the Tama component of this food as shown in the first five readings.
After that, the chakras tried to destroy the vestiges of the Tama component by taking up the non-materialised form as this form is more powerful. This was reflected as reduced activity of the chakras by the equipment. This can be understood from the example of the non-materialised Supreme God being more powerful than the materialised Deities.
Later, as the Tama component in the body was completely destroyed, the upper four chakras tried to regain their Sattva component diminished in the battle. This was reflected as increased activity.
5. Conclusions
5.1 There are two functional groups of chakras
The upper four chakras (Sahasrār, Ādnyā, Vishuddha and, Anāhat) are predominant in the Absolute Air Principle (Vāyūtattva) and act at the nirgun-sagun (More of nirgun than sagun) level, while the lower three chakras (Manīpūr, Swādhishthan and Mūlādhār) are predominant in the Absolute Fire Principle (Tējtattva) and act at the sagun-nirgun (More of sagun than nirgun) level. The upper four chakras are functional in tasks related to the intellect and the lower three chakras are functional mainly related to the mind. Thus the seven chakras are divided into two groups – upper four chakras and lower three chakras. Hence, upon eating meat or vegetarian food, generally they have similar effects on the chakras in each group.
5.2 Effect of sattvikta gained upon eating vegetarian food
5.2.1 Activation of Kundalini chakras
- Activation of upper chakras: Upper chakras are more sensitive in responding to the Sattva component than the lower chakras. Hence, upon eating vegetarian food, due to the sattvik vibrations of the vegetarian food there was improvement in the activity of the upper four chakras in seekers with and without spiritual distress.
- Activation of lower chakras in seekers who follow Karmayoga: In seekers with and without spiritual distress and who follow Karmayoga, the activity of the lower three chakras was improved upon eating vegetarian food.
5.2.2 Spiritual healing of Kundalini chakras
In seekers with spiritual distress, subtle-sorcerers create centres of distressing energy in the upper four chakras. Thus, these chakras function on the strength of the black energy stored in these centres. Upon eating vegetarian food, sattvikta gained from this food decreases the black energy in these centres, thereby reducing their activity. In other words, the upper four chakras undergo spiritual healing and thereby activity of these chakras is reduced.
5.2.3 Kundalini chakras assume non-materialised state upon gaining Sattva component continuously from the vegetarian meal
Upon eating vegetarian food by seekers without negative energy distress, sattvikta gained from this food causes improvement in the activity of the upper four chakras. When the Sattva component is available continuously as the meal progresses, the upper four chakras attain the non-materialised state, and thus become inactive.
5.3 Detrimental effect of the Tama component gained upon eating meat
5.3.1 Upper four chakras in seekers without negative energy distress get activated to fight effect of the Tama component gained upon eating meat
In seekers without spiritual distress, the upper four chakras are more sensitive than the lower three chakras. Hence, they get activated to fight the effects of the Tama component gained upon eating meat. Later, they need to assume the non-materialised form so as to fight the root of the Tama component. Finally, they have to get activated again so as to regain the Sattva component lost in this battle. Thus there is a net loss of energy of upper chakras.
5.3.2 Upper chakras in seekers with negative energy distress get activated due to absorption of the Tama component gained from eating meat
In seekers with negative energy distress, the centres of black energy in the upper four chakras created by superior subtle-sorcerers get activated so as to imbibe the Tama component from meat. Hence, there is increase in activity of upper chakras.
5.4 Factors deciding the duration of effects of eating meat and vegetarian food
5.4.1 Spiritual level
If the spiritual level of an individual is less than 60%, the duration of effect of sattvik and tamasik components is prolonged. In individuals above 60%, due to dissolution of their mental sheath, there is minimal effect on the mind regarding worldly things such as eating, drinking, clothing etc. Hence, the duration of effects of sattvik and tamasik components is short.
5.4.2 Severity of negative energy distress
In seekers with mild negative energy distress, the effect of tamasik components like meat is sustained for a short duration; whereas the effect of sattvik components like vegetarian food is sustained for longer duration. In seekers with severe distress, the effect of tamasik components like meat is sustained for longer duration since the Tama component is stored; whereas since the Sattva component in sattvik components gets used up in fighting against the negative energies, the effect of sattvik components like vegetarian food is sustained for a short duration.
6. Key points learnt
- Eating vegetarian food is more conducive for optimum functioning of the body, mind and the intellect. Considering this, we can try to reduce consumption of meat and increase intake of vegetarian food.
- Doing spiritual practice to attain the 60% spiritual level is important because upon attaining this level, both the sattvik and tamasik components have less effect on the individual.
- Doing spiritual practice regularly also protects us against negative energy distress. Negative energy distress results in a prolonged effect of tamasik components and reduced effect of sattvik components.
