The Alum method to remove the evil eye
The added benefit of using alum is that one gets to know the form of the distressing energy too. When the alum used in the ritual is burnt, the Raja-Tama frequencies emanating from it condense and from its shape the extent of distress is ascertained.
What you will need to perform this ritual?
-
Step 1: Prayer
-
The person on whom the ritual is being performed should pray after offering obeisance to Deity Māruti: ‘May the evil eye cast upon me (say full name) be cast off and may (say the full name of the person performing the ritual) not be affected by it’.
-
The person performing the ritual should pray unto Deity Maruti to prevent being affected by the distressing energy.
-
-
Step 2: Taking position
The person who is affected by negative energy and on whom the ritual is to be performed should sit on a low wooden platform or seat facing the East with flexed knees bent towards the chest (refer to the picture below). The palms should face upwards and should be placed on the knees.
-
Step 3: Performing the ritual
Steps to be followed by the person performing the ritual.
Stand in front of the person. Take one piece of alum each the size of a cherry (refer to the pictures below) in each palm.
Thereafter close your fingers, make a fist and cross your fists in front of your body. The fists should be crossed like the multiplication sign.
Then move the fists from the head to the foot of the affected individual, in opposite directions and touch the ground.
The hands are crossed only to begin with. As you begin to perform the ritual seperate the hands and simultaneously move the right fist in clockwise direction from head to foot and left fist in anticlockwise direction from head to foot. As you reach the lowest point, touch the fists to the ground.
After touching the ground, begin again as above i.e. separate the hands and simultaneously move the right fist in clockwise direction from foot to head and left fist in anticlockwise direction from foot to head.
The following should be uttered when performing the ritual ‘May the evil eye cast upon him by visitors, spirits, trees, passers-by and places, be cast off and may he be protected from disease and injury.
-
Step 4: Effects observed after throwing the alum onto a hot iron pan or burning coals
After the ritual, throw the pieces of alum onto a hot iron pan or burning coals. If the alum just burns down within seconds into an amorphous heap without taking a specific form then it means that there is no problem.
If the alum does not take any shape but keeps burning for a long time then one can conclude that the distressing energy is very powerful.
If the alum takes the shape of an animal or a bird then one can conclude that the ghost (demon, devil, negative energy etc.) is tormenting the person through the medium of an animal or a bird.
Sometimes the burnt alum sets into the shape of a doll. This means the sorcerer has made an image of the person and done black magic using the image as a medium.
Sometimes the alum assumes the shape of the a skull. This means that lower level ghosts with severe cravings are tormenting the affected person.

Step 5: Disposing of the remains
The remains need to be collected in a plastic bag sealed and disposed in the garbage can after praying to Deity Maruti that the negative energy in them be destroyed.
