Halloween increases the probability of attack by ghosts

31 October is celebrated in the western world as Halloween’s day. On Halloween night, adults and children dress up as creatures from the underworld (ghosts, ghouls, zombies, witches, goblins), light bonfires, and enjoy spectacular fireworks displays. The houses are decorated by carving pumpkins or turnips into scary faces and other decorations. Some of the most popular yard decorations are jack-o’-lanterns, scarecrows, witches, orange and purple string lights, inflatable decorations such as spiders, pumpkins, mummies, vampires and other monstrous creatures. Other popular decorations are foam tombstones and gargoyles.

These types of celebrations are harmful from a spiritual point of view. The reasons for this are:

  1. A rule of Spiritual science says that ‘The word, touch, form, taste, smell and its related energy coexist’. Thus where the word ‘God’ is present God’s attendant divine energy is also present. That is why we feel better after chanting God’s name or praying to Him. Similarly where the name and form of ghosts (demons, devils, negative energies etc.) exist, their distressing energy is also present. As the form and colour of the decorations and costumes is similar to that of ghosts, they act as antennae (similar frequency conduits) to attract a lot of negative distressing energy. The distressing energy has the effect of draining us physically as well as emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.
  2. These types of celebrations are steeped in the subtle basic raja and tama components due to the nature of costume, colours and themes. For example, black has the ability to attract up to 70% of all possible negative vibrations in the surrounding environment and is the most tamasik of all colours.  As ghosts are also raja and tama predominant they are attracted to the raja and tama generated out of these celebrations.  Such celebrations are therefore rife with the presence of ghosts. The increase in the raja and tama vibrations also adds to people’s vulnerability to be possessed by ghosts.
  3. At a level of society, due to the heightened raja-tama as a result of scale of Halloween activities all across the country everyone is adversely affected. The detrimental effect of these raja-tama frequencies manifests with an overall rise in restlessness, depression, fatigue, irritability, increased negative behaviour like vandalism etc.
