Winning the world

‘You can win the world with love’, this is not true. Only one who has won the mind can rule the world (Māyā – Great Illusion).

Does it mean love without expectations ‘neerpeksha prem‘ or ‘preetee‘ can’t win the world? Also, does love without expectation come after or before winning the mind? Does winning the mind mean changing the basic nature of mind? What does winning the mind mean? Is it the art of watching the mind by becoming an observer or ‘sakshi‘, i.e. without getting disturbed? Please answer. Thanks.

    Dear Dr RLB,

Your questions are very good. Winning the mind means removing all our defects, reducing ego and imbibing Divine qualities. Without that it is not possible to love unconditionally, or we can at most experience very small glimpses of love without expectations.

    So True!

It reminds me of my Guru who once once told me: “Study the mind; conquer it – thence the world gets conquered. There’s no other way to remove sorrows”
I asked my Guru what was meant by ‘conquer’, and my Guru told me to observe the mind – teeming thoughts, always jumping about (a funny simile – like a drunk monkey whose tail has been stung by a scorpion) through an attitude of Self Awareness and to go to the Source of that Witness.

    Salutations to all Saints

From what I understand, unconditional love (preeti) for all, is the automatic fallout of Knowledge i.e realisation of Brahman. It has nothing to do with personality and defects of personality, which belong to the “mind”. Mind is essentially a part of personality and has nothing to do with the all-pervasive substratum i.e “Brahman”. Mind cannot become as perfect as Brahman and there is no use trying to make it perfect. Spiritual practice does purify the mind, but that is more of a side-effect rather than a purpose. Mind and personality have more to do and are decided by destiny. The all pervasive “Sankarshana” also commonly called as Brahman is perfect even within the imperfect mind and body.

I totally agree with this because I feel that our love is first for ourself, then family and friends, nation, and is a bit limited. We only love those whom our mind tells us to love. We are caught in the vicious circle of materialism. We love our bodies more than anything. Our mind rules us more than anything. My understanding is a bit limited due to ignorance.
