Perform spiritual practice for surviving the difficult times ahead

H. H. Atul Dighe

According to the principles of Spirituality, one of the mini-cycles of four eras within the Kaliyug era will be ending soon and another mini-cycle of four eras will commence. Kaliyug is considered an era of strife. We all are experiencing it in our daily life in the form of personal problems, family problems, job problems, financial crises, psychological problems, etc. In a day we are happy hardly for 2-3 hrs. This will decrease further as the difficult times approach. In these difficult times, mankind will see many natural calamities like earthquakes, tsunamis, famine, floods, etc. The possibility of Third World War is also looming large. However, if we commence spiritual practice now, then we will be able to survive these difficult times. Let us take this opportunity given by God to start spiritual practice because it is only He, who can protect us in any situation.

Offer the mind, intellect and ego to God

H. H. Lola Vezilić

With the beginning of spring, the Sun rays are bright and pleasant and all of nature is awakening full of joy and dressing in glorious, fresh colors. All this Divine beauty that we are surrounded with is a gift from God to us, out of His immense love. Now pause for a moment go deep in your heart and express gratitude for everything that you have been given, for all the love and care He is pampering you with, for life, and above all for your spiritual practice. He has given all without expecting that we even acknowledge what He has given. What have we given back to Him? Do we remember Him even for even tiny bit of how much He remembers us, how much He loves us? Let us all make a firm resolve this very moment to surrender all to Him and to plead fervently that He keeps us close to Him, to forgive us all our wrong deeds, let us offer at His feet our mind, intellect and ego in the form of the most beautiful flowers and plead that He accept this humble offering.

Let us continually be in rememberance of God’s Glory.

You are really helping us in these difficult days for all humanity. I saw that to remember God (chanting God’s Name) is uplifting and one day after I had done some chanting i asked Him to give me a sign if I am on the right path, I swear to Almighty God that after that sincerely praying I smelt a wonderful fragrance that I had never felt in my entire life. Somebody was also touching me on the head smoothly, I was just surprised. Thank you for your work.

Dear Spiritual, we too pay gratitude to God for getting chanting done from us. God gives us experiences like the one you had when there is sincere desire and curiosity. As we continue on the spiritual path, we are bound to experience his continued and increased presence.

dear spiritual….i am very excited to know abt your site and to start chanting Shri Gurudeva Datta… but why do I always feels very sleepy? Never felt like this before…

Dear Meera, due to the positivity generated through chanting, negative energy is released from our body, and this sometimes causes sleepiness, heaviness, etc. If you persevere with the chanting, the sleepiness will eventually reduce and you will be able to concentrate on the chant.

I feel that stumbling on to your website was ordained by God and a gift from her. My understanding is that spiritual practice that I engage in is NOT for feeling the divine light or to get divine particles. Rather, it is to decrease my ego [one can never abolish it completely; after all the whole universe runs on ego] and be blessed with Intelligence and a controlled mind. And in the long term to live a life as advocated by Adi Sankara in his book Tattva-Boddha. In other words, to develop dispassion, discrimination, 6 fold inner wealth and high motivation. If I can achieve this much, then that is the best thing we can give back to our creator. To become a better human being is what I want to achieve.
I too have had similar experience as Meera – a sleepy feeling and in addition to that, I seem to have become very equanimous at work and have certainly been attracting more complimentary letters than complaints. Another thing I have observed with spiritual practice is that I seem to have lesser degree of carnal desires being replaced by a constant desire to have the spiritual experience of bliss. I am not sure why that should be.

Thanks Prem. In fact the question was about sleepiness during chanting. Have you seen our latest article on the difference between chanting and meditation?

Can anybody elaborate on the mini-cycles of Kaliyuga? Lots of people know about the duration and the condition of the people in the four main yugas, but the mini-cycles are not so commonly known. Considering that the main Kaliyuga began in 3102 BCE, now (2013 CE) it has been 5115 years since the kaliyuga started. I read in one of the articles in SSRF that the mini-cycles last for 1000 years. Then there ought to have been a transition after 5000 years after the kaliyuga began, which was in 1898 CE. 2025 CE is 5127 KY, and the article says that a new mini-cycle will begin in 2025. Can anybody explain the reason for this?

Dear Prashant, there is a difference in the duration of the lunar and solar calendar years. More information about the cycles and eras in our article on the origin of the universe.
