Have you ever wondered why psychiatrists themselves suffer from depression or some form of mental illness?

While seeking guidance from His Holiness Dr. Athavale on a spiritual research topic, He mentioned something which would be of value to psychiatrists. His Holiness Dr. Athavale was Himself practicing as a clinical hypnotherapist until He came fully into spiritual practice.
While seeking guidance from His Holiness Dr. Athavale on a spiritual research topic, He mentioned something which would be of value to psychiatrists. His Holiness Dr. Athavale was Himself practicing as a clinical hypnotherapist until He came fully into spiritual practice. He mentioned that as many as 70% of all psychiatrists suffer from some mental illness themselves especially after years of practice.

The main reason for this is that they deal with mentally ill patients who in turn most of the times (90% of the time) are affected / possessed by negative energies or departed ancestors. This means that in 9 out of 10 cases of mentally ill patients that a psychiatrist treats, the root cause of the patient’s illness is in the spiritual dimension. The psychiatrists themselves having no subtle ability cannot perceive that many a time they are actually dealing with or talking to negative energies. When they try and help the mentally ill patient, they quite often enrage the possessing entity (negative energy) that ends up attacking the psychiatrist at a subtle level. This is the main cause of why psychiatrists become patients themselves and show signs of depression, suicidal thoughts and other behavioural changes which resemble a psychiatric patient. Understanding this aspect and the spiritual dimension and its impacts on mental health can help psychiatrists put spiritual measures in place to both protect themselves and also better help their patients.

As the supernatural phenomena were taking place because of higher level negative energies using the Absolute Cosmic Elements we needed to explain what they were in the documentary script. While writing the script I would mull over how best to explain this concept and visualise it to a lay person. I often found myself in prayer to the deities of the Absolute Cosmic Elements asking them for guidance in writing that part of the script as I felt ill-equipped to do the explanation justice. I felt a deep sense of gratitude and privilege to share this knowledge about the deities of the Absolute Cosmic Elements with the world. It also deepened my appreciation for Them as they are the building blocks for the entire Universe. The production team spent quite some time in preparing a segment of the video that explained the Absolute Cosmic Elements in detail.

In order to shoot the interview with the subtle department seeker Ms. Sonal Joshi, we chose Dr. and Mrs. Desai’s residence. The place in the house that we chose to shoot the interview was very scenic and had big large bay windows. The downside however was that there was too much of backlight and this allowed us only a few hours of shoot time, i.e. in the early hours of the morning and towards sunset. The shoot was scheduled for the last week of April which was right in the middle of summer with not a cloud in the sky. We started shooting in the evening on 21 April 2009 and soon realised that we had only one hour to shoot between the time the backlight reduced and the sunset time started.

Realising our problem, that night on the way back to the ashram and SSRF’s research centre, I prayed to the Guru Principle and to the deities of the Absolute Cosmic Elements if they could provide us with an overcast sky. An overcast sky would increase the time we had to shoot as it would reduce the intensity of the backlight.

That night I was woke up at 3 AM with thunder and lightning erupting in the sky. Then it began to rain very heavily. The production team had a 4 AM start to get to the shoot venue. Though we drove in pouring rain, I was so happy to see the rain and paid gratitude to the Guru Principle and to the Absolute Cosmic Water Element. Sure enough the sky was overcast throughout the day and we were able to get much more shoot-time during the day.

The night prior to the last day of the shoot, the camera crew slept at the Desai’s residence. We were scheduled to start at 6.30 AM and had to pick up Ms. Sonal Joshi from her house at 5.30 AM. However the whole team overslept and only got up at 6 AM. Repeated calls from Ms. Joshi did not help as all our phones were on silent. When going in the car to pick her up, I prayed to the Guru Principle and to the deity of the Absolute Cosmic Water Element admitting my mistake and asking for help. I looked out of the car window and it seemed like a clear day and I wondered if my prayer would be answered. We started the shoot finally at around 7 AM. As we started the shoot clouds began to appear from nowhere and they stayed covering the Sun. As soon as the last dialogue was uttered, within a few seconds, the Sun came out from the clouds and the clouds dissipated once and for all.

It was a very unreal kind of experience to see the forces of nature coming to help with a simple prayer. I had a lump in my throat and tears welled up in gratitude. I felt internally that even though we made a big mistake by not waking up on time, the deity of the Absolute Cosmic Water Element came to our help as He had pity on us but mainly out of respect for His Holiness Dr. Athavale’s mission.

The next time I heard of this trip of Dadaji’s was a month ago, when he had come to the SSRF research centre at Goa. It was announced that the predictions that He made while He was in Australia would be made public.

When in Sydney, Dadaji who was close to 90 years old had performed severe austerities. At that time Dadaji wrote down 22 predictions of personal, spiritual, social and political events on an aerogramme from Australia Post. The letter was posted to India and kept under lock and key until last month i.e. May of 2009.

At the ceremony where the predictions were to be read out there were Saints, various well known members of society, journalists and about 400 people in attendance. After the sealed letter was inspected by various dignitaries that had been invited, it was opened for the first time after 2004.

Though I have heard of Dadaji’s predictions in the past coming true, it’s different when one experiences it personally. Each and every prediction that was read out was found to be correct. Some of the predictions were written along with mobile numbers of the person that the prediction was made about. These people were unknown to Dadaji and yet when the mobile number was called, each time the concerned person picked up confirmed the predicted event. As the predictions were being read out, I couldn’t help wondering, if in 2004, whether some of these mobile numbers had been activated at all and yet they had been included in the predictions.

Some of the accurate predictions included:

At a national level: Dr. Manmohan Singh will be sworn in on 22 May 2009 for the office of the Prime Minister of India.

At a social level: There will be a robbery in broad daylight at the Dadar, (Mumbai) branch of Apna bank.

At a spiritual level: That a 6 year old boy Mandar Manerikar would say that he wants to do spiritual practice as per the Brahman class by chanting mantras from the Vedas. The first time Mandar thought of choosing this life path was in 2006 when he was eight. One and a half years ago, he joined a Ved Patshala (a school for learning the Vedas, the Holy texts of the Hindus) so as to fulfil his spiritual quest. He is a full time member of the Ved Patshala. A month ago at the age of eleven, he remembers saying the exact same sentence that Dadaji had predicted for him 5 years ago.

At a personal level: Mumbai’s Mrittika Sen would top the science stream. In the recently declared results of the 12th standard examination of Maharashtra, Mruttika Sen of Mumbai had indeed stood first.

This is the 40th time where Dadaji’s predictions have been read out and each set of predictions completely accurate. He does these predictions to show society that there is something beyond the intellect that can be achieved through spiritual practice. Throughout the ceremony Dadaji face was as calm as ever unaffected by the fervour and adulation generated in the audience with each prediction turning out to be true.

But that is precisely what we had in mind when we started the SSRF website over two years ago. The primary aim of the website is to help humanity understand the spiritual dimension and to guide the curious seeker of God all the way to God-Realisation, which is the ultimate step in spiritual growth. In the beginning we did this only through articles. But later we felt that articles by themselves did not do justice to the knowledge that could be shared. Over the months we have finally stabilised on 4 main streams to share this knowledge leveraging the latest internet technologies.

1. Articles: These will continue to be the mainstay of our knowledge sharing.

2. Audios on How Spiritual Practice Helped Me: Through these we have tried to give our readers and aspiring seekers a flavour of other seekers spiritual journeys. You will notice that spiritual practice benefited each of the seekers in a very personal way.

3. Videos: Through videos we bring snippets from our library of almost 4000 hours of video footage to our readers. These videos also provide a glimpse into the spiritual phenomena that SSRF has been investigating since last 2 decades, some of which are one of a kind.

4. SSRF Classroom: Through SSRF classroom we tried to recreate our offline lectures online in small 5-6 minute capsules. This is so that our readers worldwide can attend our lectures online at their convenience. Eventually we see this growing into something like an online Spiritual University. We are grateful to providers such as slideshare.net for giving us a free platform to broadcast these tutorials. Soon we will be coming up with an online examination that readers can take up to test their spiritual knowledge. This will be based on these tutorials as well as other information on the website.

Audio-video presentations are more resource-hungry; however we acknowledge that their value cannot be underestimated. Our challenge is that with our limited resources, we have to strike a balance between the number of articles and the number of audio-video presentations in a month. Behind all our decisions on what to publish are our readers and how they would benefit spiritually from the knowledge.

If any of you have any suggestions on how we can improve please do write in using the post a comment functionality.

The following incident happened in 2002 on one of my trips to India for spiritual research. Surburban trains are the fastest way to get from South Mumbai to North Mumbai but they are also unbelievably crowded. As I was in hurry to get to my destination in North Mumbai, I made the decision to hop on to a train during rush hour even though I was carrying some expensive video equipment with me. I wondered, “How bad could it be”. For those of you who have ventured into a Mumbai local during rush hour will probably be saying bad with a capital ‘B’.

At each station more and more people tried to get on to the train until we were squashed worse than sardines in an over-packed sardine can. At about the time when we were finding it difficult to even breathe and I was on only one foot as the other foot did not have a place to rest, a passenger tried to get onto the train with an office armchair. Everyone stared at him with disbelief and some even abused him as he jostled his way into the compartment carrying the chair on his head. The man struggled with the chair holding it above everyone’s head for a few stations.

Then all of a sudden at a station between the crowds rushing in an out when he found a small gap he put down the chair and sat on it right next to the door. Suddenly from the worst seat in the house he had the best seat, a plush leather armchair with a headrest and an exclusive view of Mumbai going by. From angry stares upto now directed at him, he was suddenly the envy of the train compartment as passengers grudgingly admitted to themselves that that was a pretty good move. It was a moment that I will remember for a very long time as the vividness of the sudden change in the man’s fortunes impressed me.
